Serve With STS

Male mentors will be engaged one-on-one with an urban fatherless young boy who is living in Del Paso Heights and attends a school in the Twin Rivers Unified School District.  Once screening and training is completed, a mentor is matched with a qualified fatherless young boy, between the ages of 9 and 18. STS seeks Christian men who are mature and able to make a minimum of a one-year commitment to mentor a fatherless young boy. These mentors are asked to spend 2 hours once per week, or 4 hours every other week with their mentee to help build a relevant relationship.

Female coaches will be engaged with single moms of an urban fatherless young boy who is participating in STS’s long-term mentoring initiative.  Once screening and training is completed, a mentor begins to get involved in the varying sessions with our single moms to which the mentor is drawn.  This is a very rewarding service opportunity.  STS seeks women who are mature Christians who are able to make a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week for one year to help serve our single moms.

Administrative / Communications Assistance

Do you like to work in an office environment? If so, we need help with various administrative support tasks which may include: database input, making phone calls, developing documents, creating promotional materials, assisting our fundraising efforts, letters and cards to donors, volunteers, partners, etc.  Tell us your skill and expertise and we’ll have the job for you.  Approximate time commitment is 4 to 20 hours per month. Scheduling is flexible and some activities can be performed at home and the commitment desired is a minimum of six (6) months.

Event Helpers

Help us plan, organize and implement STS events (Annual Bowl-A-Thon (Mar), Father-Son Fun Run/Walk (Jun) and Igniting Hope Gala (Oct) fund raising events, as well as monthly orientations and training sessions, our annual volunteer celebration event); activities for our young men and their mentors (workshops, field trips, community service projects, and Friday Night Live) and our various on-going parent meetings, and more… If you love working on events, we would love to have you on the team!

A significant percentage of our young men’s parents/guardians in Del Paso Heights do not speak English. The primary people groups fitting this dilemma include: Hispanic, Hmong and Laotian.  Translators are also needed for monthly parent meetings, annual enrollment sessions, translation of written materials, and occasional events.  Certain sessions can be completed via phone. Approximate time commitment is 2 to 4 hours per month. Scheduling is flexible.
